RECYCLING

A (SLIGHTLY UNHAPPY) POST ABOUT OUR TIME

Our last blog post made it clear that recycling, climate protection and sustainable economic approaches are the right way to go in our view. We started this journey a long time ago and are continuing it, step by step. Hence our “Green Loop” ...

Green Loop: Everything at a glance, everything for a more sustainable future

In our last post we also wrote that we are not entirely happy about the current discussion in general and the developments in our industry specifically. The reason is that many people seem to believe that plastics and a sustainable approach are fundamentally incompatible. We disagree: Plastics are a perfect way to protect valuable goods, such as food or building materials, and allow them to be used without losses. Plastics prevent valuable products from ending up in the bin – that is part of sustainability! But of course it matters what kind of plastic you use and how. Polypropylene, for instance, is extremely suitable for recycling if it is used the right way.

Unfortunately there are even more reasons why we sometimes doubt that the discussion is headed in the right direction. For instance, there is the issue of supposedly more sustainable packaging, which is unjustifiably enjoying increasing popularity due to the bad image of plastics. However, objective consideration of the issue will no doubt lead customers and end consumers to change their minds soon enough – it’s a step by step process.  Then there is a matter that requires no further comment and frequently exposes its true nature rather quickly: greenwashing.

To summarise our point of view and our process clearly and concisely, we have developed Green Loop and published it on a landing page for a quick overview.
